Set against the peaks of the Canadian Rockies, Fernie’s pristine waters, freestone rivers and clear lakes make it one of the most stunning and productive dry fly destinations in the world. Head out with one of the experienced fishing guides from Fernie Wilderness Adventures or Elk River Guiding on the famous Elk River or Wigwam. Prime fishing season is June 15 – October 31. After a full day, stop by the patio at Fernie Brewing Co. for some tasty tasters and take back a growler, then head on up to the spectacular setting at Island Lake Lodge for a hearty steak or Wild BC Salmon and some fantastic British Columbia wine. Back in town shoot some pool with the regulars at The Pub before heading upstairs to your room at Park Place Lodge.

Start the day with a carbo fueled breakfast at Big Bang Bagels in Historic Downtown Fernie before heading on the road. Local favourite is the Mt Fernie bagel. Fueled up with coffee in hand it’s time to make the short drive west to the St Mary’s River in Kimberley, where your scenic float offers views of both the Purcell and the Rocky Mountains as well as natural hoodoos. Your experienced guides from St Mary Anglers will assist you to lure West Slope Cutthroat and navigate the gentle free stone stream.

Celebrate the awesome day with some afternoon beers at the Pedal and Tap where you can soak up some sun and sample the beers from the newest brewery in the Kootenays, Over Time. For dinner indulge in delicious Bavarian fare at the authentic Old Bauernhaus Restaurant. Rest your head at the friendly Chateau Kimberley Hotel.

Enjoy an early yet laidback start to your morning with a home cooked traditional breakfast from Our Place Restaurant. After fueling up enjoy the scenic drive north along the Rocky Mountain Trench to Invermere for a half-day guided tour with Kootenay Troutfitters. On your way to Radium drop your own line in the Columbia River where it’s not uncommon to view wildlife such as elk, deer or bears.
